Vision for the New Clacton
Clacton is changing. INTend are delivering the new vision for Clacton.
‘A revitalised and thriving town centre, which is safe and attractive and a place where people want to shop, work, live visit and invest’.
This Vision is articulated in the Regeneration Framework for Clacton, which comprises the following two documents:

The New Clacton will have:
A Revitalised Town Centre
Redevelopment of key opportunity sites in the town centre to create new retail, office, leisure, housing, community, and civic uses and a vibrant public realm.

A Seafront Quarter
Capitalise on Clacton ’s Greatest Asset – the seafront and sunshine coast – with the creation of a seafront quarter, which is well connected to the town centre.

A Strong Economy
A strong and growing economy, with excellent business and employment networks and support, making Clacton the obvious choice for businesses, customers and visitors.
A Skilled Population
A culture of lifelong learning, and skills support within the community. This enables Clacton residents to take advantage of the new job opportunities created by redevelopment and economic growth in the town centre.
An Active Community
A healthy community who take advantage of Clacton ’s coastal location and dry weather conditions, to become fitter and more active.
A Strong Community
People of all ages engaged within Clacton Town Centre, allowing them to develop into active citizens who are proud to live in Clacton . A cohesive community with positive relationships between generations.
A Sustainable Community
Physical, social and economic growth have been delivered in a holistic way which ensures the development of a sustainable community and sustainable development practices are adopted, where possible, to build for the needs of the future.
INTend’s focus is on delivering the New Clacton. This will be delivered holistically through a number of different partners and avenues. The physical regeneration proposals in the Clacton Town Centre Vision document are being taken forward in statutory policy terms via the Clacton Town Centre Area Action Plan. This will provide a sound policy framework for their delivery. Many of the socioeconomic proposals are part of the work of the LSP.
The Clacton Vision documents highlight that the requirement for better connections between the seafront and town centre. To create a premier 21st Century resort requires a major change in the image of Clacton .
Tendring District Council consider the following projects to be a priority for funding in 2010/11. INTend has been successful in securing Government Growth Point funding to take forward these projects.
2010/2011 Priority Projects
· Pier Avenue (south) - Town Square to Marine Parade public realm, continuation of phase 1 works. (Project Management by Technical and Procurement).
· Pier Gap Gateway- concept design to create a 21st Century Gateway to Clacton Seafront, maximising the use of public sector assets. (Project Management by INTend).
· Town Centre and seafront signage - information/pedestrian signage to improve the connectivity in the town and seafront area. (Project Management by Technical and Procurement).
INTend are coordinating the delivery of these key projects with Technical and Procurement Services and key partners via the Clacton and Coastal Towns Project Group.
